Passage Eight

K9 level

1. Some people find it helpful to remember things by writing notes to themselves.

2. They often leave these notes in places where they will be easy to notice, like on the table or in the middle of the floor in the living room.

3. However, the author didnt believe they liked writing notes to themselves.

4. They mentioned that most of the time, they lost the notes or forgot to check them until it was too late.

5. Instead, they preferred to use an alarm clock to remind them of what they needed to do.

6. They said that they owned ten alarm clocks in their house.

7. They also explained that these clocks helped them remember important things.

8. For example, they said that if they needed to make a phone call at a specific time, they would set an alarm clock to go off a few minutes earlier and place it next to the phone.

9. Alternatively, if they wanted to watch a particular TV show, they would set an alarm clock for the right time and put it on top of the TV.

10. They believed that using the clocks helped them remember nearly everything.

11. However, they admitted that sometimes an alarm would ring, and they wouldnt remember what it was for.

12. They always remembered setting the alarm, but they couldnt recall the reason for it.

13. If the clock was next to the phone, they thought they might have set it as a reminder to make a call, but they couldnt be sure.

14. They also thought that they could have set the alarm to remind themselves that someone was supposed to call them at a certain time.
