Passage Twenty-nine

（K4 level）

1. Every Saturday morning, there is a line of boys and girls on Garden Street.

2. They are waiting to see a film.

3. The film never starts before eight o'clock.

4. But the boys and girls can't wait to come earlier every time.

5. They do not mind waiting for a long time at all.

6. One Saturday morning, there was a very interesting film.

7. Tom came running down the street.

8. He wanted to be one of the first to get in.

9. He walked up to the front of the line and pushed his way in there.

10. Now Tom pushed his way right in front of Peter, and no other people were in front of him.

11. Peter did not say a word.

12. Instead, he reached up and pulled off Tom's hat.

13. He handed the hat to the boy behind him and told John to pass it back.

14. John passed the hat to the girl behind him.

15. John told Kate to pass it on.

16. The hat was passed very quickly to Betty at the end of the line.

17. Tom looked at Peter and asked where his hat was.

18. Peter pointed down the line.

19. There, at the end of the line, Betty was holding up Tom's hat.

20. Everybody smiled but said nothing.

21. Tom stood there for some time.

22. Then he walked all the way back to Betty.

23. Betty politely gave the hat to Tom and said it was his.

24. Tom goes to see the films on Saturday morning as before.

25. But now he goes straight to the end of the line and waits for his turn to buy the tickets.
