Passage Forty-three (K9 level)
1. The most challenging task for Shaun Rogers, a university student, is opening the classroom door on his own. 2. Shaun cannot manage this without assistance because he is only six years old. 3. He is the youngest person ever to enroll at Rochester University in New York. 4. Shaun started reading at the age of two, and by five, he had read numerous books and even finished writing his first book. 5. Shaun mentioned that he has a passion for learning, and he considers the scientist Albert Einstein his hero because Einstein never combed his hair or wore socks. 6. Shaun’s mother first noticed that her son was different when he often cried at playschool, bored by the children's simple games. 7. She began teaching him at home after discovering that local schools were unprepared for children who learn at Shaun’s accelerated pace. 8. Currently, Shaun is studying geography at university and using the Internet to complete his high school education. 9. However, some experts caution that excessive study might hinder a child's normal development. 10. Dr. Brain Wood argued that, regardless of a child's intelligence, six-year-olds should be playing with their peers. 11. Mrs. Rogers disagreed with the idea that all of her son's time was consumed by schoolwork. 12. Mrs. Rogers clarified that Shaun enjoys playing the violin and has many outdoor hobbies, like camping, fishing, and swimming, just like other boys his age.
