Chapter 3: A New Beginning
I was taken to a room with a big bed.
A kind servant gave me something to drink.
She helped me lie down and covered me with a blanket.
I felt tired and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I saw a strange face.
It was a doctor.
He asked me some questions and looked at my head.
He said I would be fine.
Aunt Reed came to see me.
She looked serious but not angry.
She said, “You will be leaving soon.”
I asked, “Where am I going?”
“To a school,” she replied.
“It is called Lowood School.”
“You must learn to behave well there.”
I was both afraid and excited.
The next day, Bessie helped me pack my things.
She gave me a hug and said goodbye.
I thanked her for being kind to me.
Then a carriage came to take me away. |
