Chapter 24: Preparing for the WeddingThe next morning, the sun was shining, and everything felt like a dream. Mr. Rochester came to find me early in the morning. He looked very happy and kept smiling at me. “We are going to be married, Jane,” he said. He took me to the tailor’s shop in the village. He said he would order the best wedding dress for me. “I don’t need such expensive clothes,” I said. “You deserve the best,” he said firmly. On the way home, he also talked about buying me jewelry. “I don’t want those things. I just want a simple life,” I said quietly. “But you are my beloved. I want to give you all good things.” I felt a little uneasy and afraid that everything was happening too fast. That night, I wrote a letter to my uncle, telling him I was going to be married. I hoped he would send me his blessing, even though he was far away. Although I was happy, there was still a little worry in my heart. I felt that some secret had not yet been revealed. |
