第二十章：夜半尖叫
Chapter 20：The Midnight Scream
一天深夜，我被一阵尖叫声惊醒。
One night, I was awakened by a loud scream.
声音来自楼上的某个房间。
The sound came from a room upstairs.
整座庄园顿时陷入混乱。
The entire mansion was thrown into chaos.
我从房间出来，看到仆人们在走廊里奔跑。
I stepped out and saw the servants running through the corridor.
每个人都显得很紧张。
Everyone looked very anxious.
但没有人愿意告诉我发生了什么。
But no one would tell me what had happened.
过了一会儿，罗切斯特先生走了过来。
After a while, Mr. Rochester came over.
他神情严肃，让我立刻回房休息。
He looked serious and told me to go back to my room.
他说：“不要问，也不要离开房间。”
He said, “Don’t ask. Stay in your room.”
虽然我听从了他的命令，但心中充满疑问。
Although I obeyed him, I was full of questions.
到底是谁在尖叫？发生了什么？
Who screamed? What had happened?
为什么他不愿告诉我真相？
Why didn’t he want to tell me the truth?
第二天早上，一切似乎恢复了正常。
The next morning, everything seemed back to normal.
但每个人都显得更加安静和小心。
But everyone acted more quiet and careful.
我感到庄园里隐藏着一个秘密。
I felt that the mansion was hiding a secret.
我试图再次向罗切斯特先生询问那晚的事。
I tried to ask Mr. Rochester again about that night.
但他轻描淡写地避开了话题。
But he brushed it off and changed the subject.
他的神情中藏着一种不愿透露的痛苦。
His expression hid a pain he did not wish to share.
从那以后，我开始注意到庄园中的某些异常。
Since then, I began to notice strange things in the house.
有时会听到脚步声，有时夜里传来低语。
Sometimes I heard footsteps, sometimes whispers in the night.
这些让我更加不安，也更加好奇。
These things made me both uneasy and curious.
我知道，罗切斯特先生在隐藏什么重要的东西。
I knew Mr. Rochester was hiding something important.

And this secret might change everything I thought I knew about him.
