第二十六章：婚礼的阻止Chapter 26: The Wedding Interrupted 婚礼这天终于到来了。
The day of the wedding finally arrived.
清晨的天空灰暗，空气中有一种奇怪的寂静。
The morning sky was gray, and the air felt strangely quiet.
我穿上了新婚礼服，心情既紧张又期待。
I put on my wedding dress, feeling both nervous and excited.
罗切斯特先生带我走向教堂。
Mr. Rochester led me to the church. 教堂里只有几位宾客和牧师。
There were only a few guests and the priest inside.
仪式开始了，牧师问是否有人反对这场婚礼。
The ceremony began, and the priest asked if anyone objected.
突然，一个陌生的声音从后排传来。
Suddenly, a stranger’s voice came from the back.
“这场婚礼不能举行！”他说。
“This wedding cannot go on!” he said. 所有人都震惊地看向他说话的人。
Everyone turned in shock to look at the speaker.
那人带来了一个律师，还有一份文件。
The man brought a lawyer and a piece of paper.
“罗切斯特先生早已有妻子，”他们宣布。
“Mr. Rochester is already married,” they announced.
“他的妻子还活着，就在这座庄园里。”
“His wife is alive, and she is in this very house.” 我站在那里，完全不敢相信自己的耳朵。
I stood there, unable to believe what I heard.
罗切斯特的脸上露出痛苦和愤怒的表情。
Mr. Rochester’s face was full of pain and anger.
“是的，她还活着，”他说，“但她疯了！”
“Yes, she is alive,” he said, “but she is mad!”
“她不是我的伴侣，她只是我的枷锁。”
“She is not a wife. She is a burden and a prison.” 他带我们去阁楼，打开了一扇锁着的门。
He led us to the attic and opened a locked door.
里面的女人眼神疯狂，头发乱如野草。
Inside was a woman with wild eyes and tangled hair.
她尖叫着扑向我们，像一头野兽。
She screamed and lunged at us like a beast.
两个看护赶紧将她控制住。
Two caretakers quickly held her back. 我心如刀割，转身离开了教堂。
My heart broke, and I turned away from the church.
我不再是一个新娘，而是一个被欺骗的人。
I was no longer a bride, but a betrayed woman.
虽然我深爱他，但我不能留在他的身边。
Though I loved him, I could not stay with him.
我必须离开，去寻找属于我的道路。
I had to leave and find my own way. |
