Chapter 7: The Ruined Dress

1. Just when Cinderella was about to give up,

2. a chorus of cheerful chattering came from the windowsill: 'Cinderella, look over here!'

3. Cinderella looked up,

4. and found her little mouse and bird friends waving at her excitedly.

5. She followed where they were pointing,

6. and saw a beautiful dress hanging on the mannequin in the corner of the room!

7. It was the old gown her mother had left her,

8. now completely transformed:

9. the dress was sewn with pink ribbons,

10. and adorned with sparkling beads.

11. It turned out that while Cinderella had been busy,

12. the little mice and birds had been secretly helping to alter the dress for her.

13. They had stitched and mended and added decorations,

14. turning the plain old dress into an elegant and beautiful ball gown.

15. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes;

16. she was so excited that tears of joy sparkled in them.

17. She thanked her little friends again and again,

18. grateful that they had given her such a wonderful surprise gift.

19. Cinderella quickly changed into the altered gown,

20. and found that it fit perfectly,

21. making her look as charming as a princess in a fairy tale.

22. She looked at herself in the mirror,

23. and could hardly recognize that the graceful, beautiful girl in the reflection was actually her.

24. She twirled around softly, the skirt flaring out,

25. as the birds fluttered around her cheering,

26. and the mice clapped their little paws happily.

27. At this moment, Cinderella's face bloomed into a smile once more,

28. filled with gratitude and joy.

29. Taking a deep breath,

30. she prepared to go downstairs to join her stepmother and stepsisters on the journey to the long-dreamed-of royal ball.
