Chapter 7: The Singing GardenAlice keeps running after the White Rabbit. She accidentally runs into a colorful flowerbed. Strange insects are everywhere. She sees a butterfly with wings like slices of bread. It flutters its wings and drifts across the flowers. A dragonfly flies by, with a body like a rocking horse. Alice says in surprise, “What curious insects!” There are other insects, looking like mixtures of food and animals. Alice cannot help laughing. Suddenly, singing comes from the flowers. The rose lifts her head and says gracefully, “Welcome.” The lily says gently, “Hello, little girl.” The violet sings cheerfully, “La la la, come sing with us!” The sunflower laughs and says, “Dance with us!” Alice says happily, “You can all talk!” The flowers answer together, “Of course!” They warmly invite Alice to join their singing. Alice says, “I am glad to meet you. I am a little human girl.” The flowers suddenly fall silent. The rose whispers, “She is not a flower, she is a weed!” The lily shakes her head and says, “We cannot let a weed stay here.” The violet says, “Drive her out!” The sunflower shouts, “Weed, go away!” Alice says angrily and sadly, “I am not a weed!” The flowers sing together, “Go away! Go away!” Alice is driven out by the flowers. She looks back once and sighs. She says, “What rude flowers!” Then she walks on, still trying to find the White Rabbit. |
