Chapter 10: The Unbirthday Tea Party

Alice claps her hands and says, “I really like your singing!”

The Mad Hatter and the March Hare roll their eyes at each other.

The Mad Hatter says, “What a rude little girl!”

Alice quickly apologizes.

She says, “I truly think the singing is beautiful.”

Her words make them freeze for a moment.

The March Hare exclaims, “No one has ever praised us before!”

The Mad Hatter jumps up and shouts, “Then let’s celebrate together!”

They excitedly invite Alice to join the tea party.

Alice sits at the table and picks up a little cup.

She asks curiously, “Whose birthday is it today?”

The March Hare shakes his head and laughs.

The March Hare says, “Not a birthday! It’s an unbirthday party!”

Alice says in surprise, “Unbirthday? What does that mean?”

The Mad Hatter and the March Hare sing together.

They sing, “There are three hundred and sixty-five days in a year.”

“Only one real birthday.”

“The other three hundred and sixty-four days are all unbirthdays!”

The Mad Hatter laughs, “So we can celebrate almost every day!”

The teapots on the table whistle tunes.

The cups clink and clatter noisily.

The whole tea party is chaotic but joyful.

Alice is carried away by their enthusiasm.

She shows a bright smile at last.
