Chapter 8: The Caterpillar’s Advice

爱丽丝又一次孤单地走开。

Alice walks away alone again.

她小声说：“我在奇境里，到底是谁呢？”

She whispers, “Who am I in Wonderland?”

音乐的旋律在远处渐渐响起。

A melody rises slowly in the distance.

爱丽丝循声走去。

Alice follows the sound.

她看见一只蓝色的毛毛虫。

She sees a blue caterpillar.

毛毛虫正悠闲地坐在蘑菇上。

The caterpillar is sitting lazily on a mushroom.

它一边抽着水烟，一边吐出烟圈。

He smokes a hookah and blows smoke rings.

毛毛虫唱着歌，声音慵懒。

The caterpillar sings with a lazy voice.

他慢慢地抬头，看见爱丽丝。

He slowly looks up and sees Alice.

毛毛虫问：“Who… are… you?”

The caterpillar asks, “Who… are… you?”

爱丽丝结结巴巴地说：“我……我不知道。”

Alice stammers, “I… I don’t know.”

她说：“我在这里忽大忽小，不再是原来的自己。”

She says, “Here I grow big and small, I am not myself anymore.”

毛毛虫眯着眼睛，冷冷地说：“那你是谁呢？”

The caterpillar squints and says coldly, “Then who are you?”

爱丽丝更困惑了，摇摇头。

Alice grows more confused and shakes her head.

毛毛虫用谜语和反问继续盘问。

The caterpillar continues with riddles and questions.

爱丽丝说：“你让我越来越糊涂了！”

Alice says, “You are making me more and more confused!”

毛毛虫终于说：“蘑菇的一边会让你变大。”

The caterpillar finally says, “One side of the mushroom will make you grow taller.”

他又说：“另一边会让你变小。”

He adds, “The other side will make you grow shorter.”

爱丽丝惊讶地说：“哦！原来如此！”

Alice says in surprise, “Oh! That’s it!”

毛毛虫抖动身体，化成了一只彩色的大蝴蝶。

The caterpillar shakes his body and turns into a colorful butterfly.

蝴蝶优雅地飞走了。

The butterfly flies away gracefully.

爱丽丝站在蘑菇边，愣住了。

Alice stands by the mushroom, stunned.

她说：“蘑菇就是关键！”

She says, “The mushroom is the key!”

她小心地掰下一块蘑菇。

She carefully breaks off a piece of mushroom.

她决定试试，学会控制自己的大小。

She decides to try it, to learn how to control her size.
