Chapter 1: The Birth of Aurora

1. Long, long ago, in a faraway land, lived a king and a queen.

2. They had always wished for a child.

3. At last, the birth of a daughter made their dream come true.

4. They named the princess Aurora.

5. “Aurora” means “dawn.”

6. For the little princess brought light and hope into their lives.

7. The whole kingdom was filled with joy and celebration.

8. The king and queen invited everyone in the land to a grand celebration.

9. Three good fairies also came.

10. They wanted to give the princess special gifts.

11. The first fairy blessed her with beauty.

12. The second fairy blessed her with a lovely voice.

13. Just as the third fairy was about to give her gift, the doors of the hall suddenly burst open.

14. An evil witch—Maleficent—stepped inside.

15. She was very angry, for she had not been invited.

16. She raised her staff and declared a terrible curse.

17. She said, “On her sixteenth birthday, the princess shall prick her finger on a spindle!”

18. “And then she will fall into a sleep from which she will never awake!”

19. Everyone was shocked and frightened.

20. Then, the third fairy stepped forward.

21. She said, “I cannot undo the curse, but I can change it.”

22. “The princess will not die. She will awaken with true love’s kiss.”
