Chapter One: The Baby in the Jungle

One stormy night, a great ship was wrecked on the coast of Africa.

A young couple escaped to shore with their baby.

They found a quiet place deep in the jungle.

The father built a small house with wood and leaves.

The mother gently rocked the baby to sleep.

“This will be our new home,” said the father with a smile.

Not far away, a family of gorillas lived in the forest.

The mother gorilla, Kala, and the strong leader, Kerchak, led the group.

One night, Kala’s baby was attacked by the leopard Sabor.

Kala wept bitterly; her heart felt empty.

Suddenly, she heard a baby crying in the distance.

She followed the sound and found a little human house.

The house was broken, and pieces of wood lay everywhere.

A leopard was hiding in the corner, watching the baby.

Kala rushed forward and fought the leopard bravely.

She grabbed the baby and ran out of the house.

She leapt over the river, climbed the vines, and finally escaped.

Back with the gorillas, Kerchak asked sternly, “Who is that?”

“He has no family. I will take care of him,” said Kala softly.

She held the baby close and smiled. “Your name will be Tarzan.”
