Chapter Six: Traps and Betrayal
Tarzan brought Jane and Professor Porter to the gorillas’ valley. The gorillas gathered around curiously, watching the strangers. Kala smiled to welcome them, but Kerchak remained stern. Jane said softly, “We’re only here to observe, not to hurt anyone.” Tarzan was overjoyed; he thought the two worlds could finally live in peace. But Clayton had another plan in mind. He secretly marked the direction of the valley. That night, Jane told Tarzan they would soon return to England. Tarzan asked in surprise, “What about me when you leave?” Jane held his hand and said, “Come with us.” Tarzan hesitated; he didn’t want to leave Kala and his family. Clayton said slyly, “If you show us the gorillas, maybe Jane can stay.” Tarzan believed him and led the humans back to the valley. Kerchak roared, “You’ve betrayed us!” Clayton suddenly fired his gun, scaring all the gorillas. The gorillas scattered in panic. Tarzan realized too late—Clayton only wanted to capture them. Kala fought to protect the young ones. Kerchak was struck down by Clayton and fell to the ground. Tarzan let out a furious roar—he would fight for his family.
