Chapter Seven: Redemption and Farewell
Clayton ordered his men to capture all the gorillas. Tarzan was locked in the ship’s cabin, angry and helpless. Jane and Professor Porter were also locked up. “I’m sorry. This is my fault,” Tarzan whispered. “No, you still have a chance to fix this,” Jane encouraged him. Together, they used ropes to escape from the cabin. Tarzan rushed back into the jungle, calling out for his family. The gorillas were trapped in cages, and Kerchak was hurt. Tarzan and Clayton fought fiercely. Clayton fired his gun at him. Tarzan fought back, swinging through the vines. Clayton angrily cut the vines but got tangled himself. Tarzan tried to save him. “Stop! Don’t do this!” But Clayton refused and was caught in his own trap. The wind stopped, the rain fell, and the jungle grew quiet again. Tarzan returned to the valley and held the fallen Kerchak. Kerchak said weakly, “You are my son.” “Lead them. Protect the family.” Tarzan shed tears and whispered, “I will, Father.” Kerchak closed his eyes peacefully.
