Chapter Three: The Shadow of Betrayal Simba and Nala secretly planned to explore the Elephant Graveyard. They told the adults they were only going to the waterhole to distract them. Zazu was assigned to follow them to keep them safe. Simba distracted Zazu by singing and dancing wildly. Finally, they slipped away from Zazu and ran excitedly toward the Elephant Graveyard. The graveyard was filled with bones, dust, and a chilling wind. Nala whispered, “Simba… I don’t think this place is safe.” Simba bragged, “I’m not scared. I’m gonna be king someday!” Suddenly, three hyenas leapt out from the shadows. They were Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. “Well, well, well… the little prince?” Shenzi sneered. The hyenas surrounded Simba and Nala, closing in slowly. Simba tried to roar, but it came out tiny and weak. The hyenas laughed. “Try again, little cub!” Simba roared again—slightly louder this time. Suddenly, a real thunderous roar shook the graveyard. Mufasa appeared, his eyes full of fury and power. The hyenas trembled in fear and ran away instantly. Mufasa looked at Simba, disappointed and worried. “You put yourself in great danger.” Simba lowered his head and whispered, “I’m sorry, Dad…”
