Chapter Four: The Tragedy in the Gorge

Early the next morning, Scar led Simba to a wide, empty gorge.

“Wait here. I have a surprise for you,” Scar said coldly.

Simba nodded innocently and sat on a rock to wait.

Scar climbed up the cliff and silently gave orders to the hyenas.

The hyenas immediately drove a huge herd of wildebeests into the gorge.

The ground began to shake, and dust filled the air.

Simba heard the thunderous noise and stood up in panic.

The wildebeests rushed in like a wild ocean.

Simba ran for his life but was swept into the stampede.

Scar pretended to panic and told Mufasa, “Simba’s in the gorge!”

Mufasa leapt into the gorge and charged through the stampede.

He searched desperately and finally pushed Simba to a safe rock.

But Mufasa himself was thrown back by the rushing wildebeests.

He struggled to climb up the edge of the cliff.

“Scar! Help me!” Mufasa cried, reaching up.

Scar looked at him coldly and smiled cruelly.

He grabbed Mufasa’s paw and whispered, “Long live the king.”

Then he released his grip, sending Mufasa falling into the stampede.

Simba saw his father fall and let out a heartbroken scream.

When the dust settled, Simba ran to Mufasa’s body, crying, “Dad… wake up…”
