Chapter Six: The Ambush in the Mountains
After training, Li Shang led the troops north into the cold snowy mountains. Mulan and the soldiers marched through deep snow in heavy armor. Along the way, they found a burned village—silent and empty. Li Shang found his father’s sword in the ruins and stood in silent grief. The soldiers realized the Huns must be close. Suddenly, a dark arrow shot from the distance. The mountains echoed with the roars of Shan Yu’s army. Thousands of Hun warriors charged down the mountain. Li Shang shouted, “Prepare for battle!” But they were greatly outnumbered. Mulan looked at the rockets and suddenly got an idea. She grabbed a rocket launcher and aimed it at the snowy peak. Shan Yu lunged toward her to stop her. Mulan lit the rocket, jumped aside, and fired it at the mountain. The rocket hit the peak—triggering a massive avalanche! Rolling waves of snow swallowed the entire Hun army. Li Shang was swept away, and Mulan rushed on horseback to rescue him. She used all her strength to pull him to safety. But Mulan herself was knocked down and buried in deep snow. Before losing consciousness, she heard Mushu shouting, “Mulan, hold on!”
