Chapter Two: The Night of the Dead
The Night of the Dead finally arrived, and the town glowed with lights and flowers. Families lit candles to guide their loved ones home. Miguel’s family prepared the altar, placing photos and food. Great-Grandmother Imelda reminded everyone, “Remember, no music in this family.” Miguel looked at the altar, feeling both excited and nervous. He secretly took the guitar, planning to join the music contest in the plaza. But his family discovered his plan and angrily stopped him. During the argument, the guitar was smashed. Heartbroken, Miguel ran out of the house in tears. He arrived at the cemetery, where everything felt quiet and mysterious. Miguel saw a grand tomb belonging to Ernesto de la Cruz. He stepped inside and gently picked up the legendary guitar. “If I’m truly your family, please let me play,” he whispered. When he strummed the first chord, something strange happened. The people around him began to turn transparent. Miguel panicked as he realized he couldn’t see or touch the living. Just then, skeletons rose up from the ground. They laughed and talked, walking like ordinary people. Miguel finally understood—he had entered the Land of the Dead. And this magical adventure was only just beginning.
