Chapter Eight: Back to the Land of the Living

The first light of sunrise began to shine over the Land of the Dead.

Miguel’s body started to become more transparent.

His family gathered around him anxiously.

Imelda finally gave Miguel her blessing—but with one condition.

“You must give up music,” she said firmly.

Miguel hesitated—he could not agree.

Just as time was running out, Héctor arrived.

He gave Miguel his blessing—without any conditions.

Miguel hugged Héctor tightly.

The power of the blessing sent Miguel back to the living world.

Miguel woke up on the floor of his home.

The sun was up—the Night of the Dead was over.

Without explaining, Miguel rushed to Great-Grandmother Coco.

He knew she was the only one who still remembered Héctor.

Miguel picked up the guitar and softly began to sing.

The song was called Remember Me.

The music awakened Coco’s memories.

She slowly hummed along.

She remembered her father—Héctor.

With memory restored, hope returned.
