Chapter Ten: True Family Coco’s memories returned, and the family’s story was finally whole. The family gathered together, looking at the preserved photos. Héctor’s photo was placed back on the ofrenda. In the Land of the Dead, Héctor no longer faded away. He hugged Imelda tightly, his eyes full of gratitude. They finally forgave each other. Ernesto’s lies were completely exposed, and his glory vanished. Music returned to Miguel’s home. For the first time, the family listened as Miguel played the guitar. Imelda nodded and said softly, “Music is also part of family.” Time passed, and another Day of the Dead arrived. Miguel stood before the ofrenda, smiling at his ancestors. He knew they were always near. Miguel continued to sing—and continued to make shoes. He no longer had to choose between dreams and family. Because the truest dream is being with family. The living and the dead were connected through love and memory. Every song was an act of remembering. Every act of remembering was an act of love. Miguel finally understood: true family is never forgotten.
