Chapter Two: A Secret Love After returning home, William tried to live a quiet life. He worked in the fields and smiled among the villagers. There, he met his childhood friend—Murron. Murron was gentle yet strong, with light in her eyes. They slowly grew close but did not dare show it. Under English rule, even love had to be hidden. English officials announced a cruel law. Newly married women would be taken away first. William felt anger but buried it deep inside. To protect Murron, he chose a secret marriage. In the forest, a friend stood as witness. There was no music, no feast—only vows. Holding Murron’s hand, William promised lifelong protection. In that moment, they belonged only to each other. But peace did not last long. A sudden conflict drew the attention of English soldiers. Murron was taken away, and William ran after her desperately. He watched his love suffer, unable to stop it. In that moment, the vow in William’s heart shattered. The quiet life had finally come to an end.
