听力原文:

Text 1

W: How can I get to the nearest bookstore?

M: Just turn right, and then you can see it.

Text 2

M: Has Lucy called you back today, Jane?

W: Yes. She says Mary is going abroad next month. They will come to say goodbye to me tomorrow.

Text 3

M: I’d worked for that company for 8 years. I always thought my work had been valued.

W: Sorry to hear that. But it’s not the end of the world. With your experience, I’m sure many firms would be very glad to have you.

Text 4

W: I’ll have to meet Tom at the airport at 3:30, but it’s already 3:00 now. Maybe I’ll miss it.

M: Don’t worry. A taxi will take you there quickly and on time.

Text 5

M: Can you help me? I can’t find my key anywhere.

W: Let me turn on the light first. You cannot find anything in the dark.

M: Oh, here it is.

W: Now we can open the door.

Text 6

M: So you’re new here.

W: Yes, I’d like to be your secretary.

M: What work have you done before?

W: I was a nurse for six years. And then I worked in a bank. And I’m a secretary now.

M: How long have you been a secretary?

W: For one year. Since last September.

M: You have been a secretary for one year. In London?

W: No, I came to London nine months ago.

M: So you’ve worked in London since last December.

W: Yes, that’s right.

Text 7

M: What are you doing, Helen?

W: I’m cleaning the house.

M: Can you go to the movies with me this afternoon?

W: I don’t think so. Right now I’m sweeping the floor. Then I have to wash the floors, and wash and iron all the clothes.

M: Aren’t your sister and your mother helping you?

W: No, they usually help, but today my sister is playing tennis and my mother is writing.

M: That’s too bad. Jessica is playing at the theater these days. They say it’s good. Don’t you want to watch it? And I want to go to that new Chinese restaurant.

W: Well, you could come over later this afternoon and watch TV with me.

M: I have a good idea. Why don’t I come over and help you with your work?

W: Would you?

M: Yes!

Text 8

W: Let’s go in here and order some coffee while we look at your pictures.

M: Good idea! We’d both like coffee, please. OK, here’s a picture of Ed, my roommate. I took this picture right after we had arrived at the school this fall, when we had just met, in fact. And this was our room of the dormitory while we were unpacking all our things. What a mess!

W: You certainly had a lot of boxes. How did you ever find room for everything?

M: In the beginning we thought we’d never get all arranged but now we are very comfortable. Luckily for me, Ed keeps his things neat.

W: Do you like living in the dormitory?

M: It’s not bad. Sometimes Ed turns his radio up too loud and makes too much noise. Then I get angry. Sometimes I leave my books lying around and he gets angry. But usually we get along well.

Text 9

W: Hello. I’d like to speak to Mr. Hill, please.

M: Hill speaking.

W: This is Kate Morrison. You remember me, don’t you?

M: Of course, I do. What is the matter? Has anything happened?

W: I don’t want to trouble you, but I’m worried. We got examinations last month.

M: What are you worried about?

W: I may fail, and my parents may want me to go back to Canada. They may not send me any more money.

M: You won’t fail; of course you may fail if you don’t work at all. You must begin right away. One of your teachers was talking to me about you. You can pass the examinations.

W: Are you sure?

M: Of course, I am. If you worry, you may fail, so you mustn’t worry.

W: You’ve helped me a lot. I feel sure of myself now. Would you like to come to another party here tonight?

M: Another party? You must be mad! But thank you for your invitation. You won’t pass the examinations if you have parties every night!

Text 10
