听力原文:

Text 1

M: I heard some students in your class visited the Buckingham Palace.

W: You are right. But only half a dozen of us did.

Text 2

M: Who on earth is ringing the doorbell? Oh, it must be Virginia. Would you answer the door, please, Mama?

W: OK. Hello, Virginia. Come in.

Text 3

W: I’m told you’ve finished a very difficult operation.

M: Yeah. It’s really a challenge to me.

W: You are great! I must congratulate you on this success.

M: It’s very kind of you to say so.

Text 4

M: Your brother is going to be sent to Britain to study, really?

W: Yes, he’s already got the passport.

M: Please send him my congratulations.

W: Thank you. He’s very lucky indeed.

Text 5

W: Jason, you look unhappy today!

M: Yes. However hard I try, my English is still not good enough.

Text 6

M: Hello, Jane.

W: Hello, Bill. Have you ever been to Ocean Park?

M: No. But I’m going there tomorrow morning.

W: Well, you’ll like it. You’ll find a lot of different kinds of fish there. What about the science museum? Have you been there yet?

M: Yes, I went there yesterday afternoon. I learnt a lot about science there.

W: Yes, all the visitors coming to our city will surely go to visit the museum. By the way, don’t forget to try some of the restaurants here; the food is great.

M: Yes, I certainly will.

Text 7

W: I didn’t see Tommy yesterday.

M: He was absent from school.

W: What was the matter?

M: He said that he had an accident.

W: Oh, that’s too bad! I hope that he’s all right.

M: He’s OK, but he said that he’d really smashed up the car.

W: How did it happen?

M: The road was wet, and he lost control of his car and slid into a telephone pole.

W: That car was no good. Does he have insurance?

M: He said that he’d just taken out new insurance.

W: I hope that he’ll get enough money for a new car.

M: He said that he’d spoken to the insurance company.

Text 8

W: What are you doing, Dad?

M: I’m mowing the lawn. I have to push it to keep it running.

W: Are you tired, Dad? Do you want me to give you a hand?

M: I’m fine. Thank you! It’s a kind of exercise for me.

W: Dad, I saw a different machine to mow the lawn in the movie. It looks like a motorcycle. You can just sit on it and drive.

M: Sounds good! It will save me a lot of time!

W: Why don’t we go and buy one? Then I can help you mow the lawn.

M: You are a good girl. Then what exercise can I do? I need to lose weight.

W: You can run after the machine. I will be driving.

Text 9

W: It’s difficult to find a suitable job this year. I have pressure.

M: Now college graduates are being encouraged to start their own businesses. It sounds really good for us. We can get some valuable social experience, which will be helpful for our future jobs. We may also know more about ourselves and society better.

W: Yes, but it is not as easy as you imagine. There are a lot of problems. The main difficulty is money. And our education doesn’t provide enough knowledge on how to do it.

M: Maybe you are right. But our government allows college graduates to borrow money from banks and maybe some can get money from their parents.

W: But you have to pay back the money sooner or later. So some college graduates prefer to live a peaceful life rather than start their own business through job-hunting. It’s very competitive.

M: Oh, they don’t have dreams. But I have made up my mind. How about you?

W: Well, it always takes time to consider before making a decision.

Text 10

M: Reading is a good habit. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills that I think are especially good. Preview—if it’s long and hard. Previewing is especially useful for getting a general idea of heavy reading like long magazine articles and business reports. Here’s how to preview. Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully. Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs. Previewing doesn’t give you all the details. It keeps you from spending time on things you don’t really want or need to read. Skim—if it’s short and simple. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading—like popular magazines or the sports and entertainment of your daily paper. Here’s how to skim. Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep them across each line. Pick up only a few key words in each line.
