听力原文:

Text 1

M: Excuse me, how much are the tickets?

W: They’re ten dollars each for the general public, but students’ tickets are half price. How many tickets do you want?

Text 2

W: Who is your new secretary, Tom?

M: Miss Evans. To tell you the truth, I’m little pleased with the work she has done so far.

Text 3

M: The city government has decided to build a school for the disabled children here.

W: It’s high time. I don’t know why it took so long.

Text 4

W: Mr. Rice, I wonder if I could be off on Friday.

M: Do you really have to? It’s a bit difficult with so many people away on holiday, you know.

Text 5

M: The car was a total loss. Did you see it?

W: Yes. Can you imagine three women and a baby were in the horrible accident without being hurt?

Text 6

M: What are you reading?

W: The Travels of Marco Polo. It’s terribly interesting.

M: Let me see. Oh! What lovely pictures!

W: Yes. Look, this is Venice. It’s a beautiful old town in Italy.

M: Oh, yes. That’s where Marco Polo was born, isn’t it?

W: That’s right. And he and his father and uncle left Italy in 1271 and reached China in 1275.

M: I think they lived in China for a long time.

W: Um…seventeen years. And then they had a very difficult and dangerous journey home. They got to Venice in 1295.

Text 7

M: Have you reviewed for tomorrow’s physics test yet?

W: I sure have. I spent a long time preparing for it.

M: Well, I haven’t opened a single page yet.

W: Are you kidding? You’d better start studying. You know you can’t pass Professor Green’s tests without preparation.

M: But I want to go to the hockey game this evening.

W: I’m telling you the test will be tough.

M: I guess it’s too late to start studying anyway.

W: If I were you, I’d really work harder this evening.

M: I hate to miss that game but…

W: Listen! Go to the game and I know you’ll be sorry.

M: I guess you’re right. Let’s have something to eat, and then go to the reading room.

W: OK. Let’s go.

Text 8

W: Excuse me, I’m Lisa. We’re doing a survey. Could I ask you some questions while you’re waiting for your baggage?

M: Sure. Go ahead.

W: OK. How do you feel about the arrival area? Were you happy with it?

M: Well. No, I wasn’t, really.

W: Oh, why?

M: The gate was a long way from immigration, and the elevator wasn’t working.

W: Oh, dear, I’m sorry to hear that. OK. Then I see you’ve bought some duty-free items here. Were you happy with the prices?

M: Well. I thought they were a little high.

W: A little high? Compared to…

M: Oh, to most places in Asia.

W: I see. Well, how about the general appearance of the airport?

M: Excellent. It’s about the cleanest airport I’ve ever seen.

W: So, all in all, it was clean and efficient?

M: Clean, and very efficient. Uh, I have to go. Here comes my suitcase.

Text 9

W: Sir, you’ve been using the Online Catalogue for quite a while. Is there anything I can help you?

M: I’ve got to write a paper about Hollywood in the 30s and 40s, and I’m really struggling. There are hundreds of books, and I just don’t know where to begin.

W: Your topic sounds general. Why don’t you narrow it down to something like…uh…the history of the studios during that time?

M: You know, I was thinking about doing that, but more than 30 books came up when I typed in “movie studios”.

W: You could cut that down even further by listing the specific years you want. Try adding “1930s” or “1940s” or maybe “Golden Age”.

M: “Golden Age” is a good idea. Let me type that in…Hey, look, just 6 books came up this time. That’s a lot better.

W: If you need any help, I’ll be over at the Reference Desk.

M: Great, thank you.

Text 10

W: It took George quite a while to find a parking place for his car, and in the end he had to leave it in a narrow street, some way away from the dentist’s. His appointment was at five and he still had twenty minutes to spare. He crossed into the square and sat down on a bench, partly to enjoy the last of the afternoon sun, but also to calm his nerves. He hated these visits to the dentist. As he sat there, watching the children at play and listening to the old women talking to each other, he turned around to see a red car like his own pull out of the street where he had parked. The car gathered speed and was soon out of sight. George felt in his pockets for the keys: They were not there. “My car!” he cried in a loud voice, which made several people stare at him. He got up and ran across the square and then down the narrow street. His car was not to be seen—but then he discovered it was concealed(被隐藏)behind a large one. He was relieved(感到宽慰的)to find his keys still in his car.
